Overheard in a Florida diner…
I didn’t get to finish my lunch sketch so I completed it from memory and decide to add some conversation to it. This was your typical Greek diner, there used to be a few in my hometown. No frills, but solid diner food. The ambiance waxes and wanes with telltale regulars. The discussions are mostly murmurs, but this one was out there. UFOs are a thing discussed here. With rockets being tested and other things flying through the sky it’s no wonder UFOs come up in discussions in a local diner. We even got to see Space X satellites stream across the sky one evening while fishing!
While waiting for my Dad’s appointment I drove around looking for a spot to paint. It took about fifteen minutes to find a colorful food truck with steady customers driving in and out for a quick lunch bite. Sadly, no time to eat the local food as I had to pack up and leave. I did however get a tasty desert at another restaurant that one of the better key lime pies I’ve had.
Recently, the Easter Bunny gave me Covid! YUP that’s right, yours truly was down and out for a week, hence the lack of art from me. But, I do have good news to share. “Waitin’ on Steve” was accepted into the AIS National Exhibition! For those that don’t know, AIS is the American Impressionist Society. This was my first time entering and I was stoked something of mine got in!
Below was Wednesday’s nights upside down portrait demo in which all the major elements are painted upside down and then flipped right side up to add details. I love doing this on all kinds of subjects as it lets me focus on structure without paying attention to likeness or familiarity.
Lastly, here’s a quick sketch I did in Procreate of Willie Nelson on his birthday! I just heard he’s going on tour again and will try to see him in concert this time if he comes to our town.
That’s all folks! I’ll be sure to post next with new work!
