Painting demos, classes and one last chance to see my show in Suffolk!
Spring is around the corner, looking forward to painting!
Hello folks!
March 7th marks my last event for the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts. It’s the Art of the Wine Series and there is still time to register. I’ll be discussing my work while you get to eat food and wine and food servings prepared by chefs Ed Beardsley (of restaurant Mod Olive) and Kathy Lethig.
FRIDAY MARCH 7, 2025 6-8PM $60 per person.

Last weeks demo for the Patrons dinner fund raiser. I was asked to paint a demo during the event and I had a lot of fun. While I only got an hour and thirty minutes of paint time for a 16x20, I was happy with the results. I continued on with the painting later on in the studio. Below are the results in chronological order.

I finally got out in the cold to paint. This last snowstorm, produced a lot of snow and I manage to get out to capture some of it before it melted away! Here’s North Landing Grocer. It later became several different entities, including a well loved bbq and market called “Hog Heaven” and then “Sooee’s”. I had several people stop by to share the history, but I had to resort to Facebook’s “I grew up in Virginia Beach” group to learn more about it and was hoping to see what hung on the sign post. Unfortunately, I came up empty, but I will add something in and post the final painting later on. A video was recorded, but my iPhone kept interupting and I had to restart several times. I’m hoping there is enough to put together something to share on my Youtube channel.
I’m on schedule to teach an expressive oil painting class this Spring. Last fall the school paid for Facebook ads. and then was told they had violated “terms of service” for unknown reasons, (thanks Zuckerturd). Hence, nobody saw the ad and the class was cancelled. The school has hired me teach and has made the course extremely affordable to best serve the Hampton Roads residents. You will not find more bang for the buck out of a painting class. It’s 9 weeks and meets on a Wednesday from 5:30-8:30pm, starting March 19 - May 21st. (There is no class during the week of Spring Break for Norfolk Public Schools). Did I mention you even get a starter kit? Like a said, the best bang for your buck serving the Hampton Roads Community. Email to sign up! (Must be 18 and up to register).
Here’s a digital painting study that I worked on during a late night “Dexter” rerun binge using a collection of Procreate Brushes I’ve made over the years. If you have Procreate and want to get them, check my site here.
Well, that’s all I have for now, only six more days until “Spring Forward”!
